Introduction
This article intends to provide you with the means to quickly configure your CONNECT-D.
1 - Pre- requisites
1.1 - Suggested readings before diving-in
We advise you to read through the following articles before diving into the next sections:
- CONNECT-D hardware requirements : the article lists the minimum system specifications to support the CONNECT-D regardless of the type of installation.
- CONNECT-D Installation procedure: the article presents the CONNECT-D and explains how to install it.
1.2 - Software and hardware pre-requisites
CONNECT-D is compatible with the following software versions :
Software | Minimum version |
CVIConfig | 2.5.4.1 |
CVIMonitor | 1.9.7.1 |
Additionally, since the CONNECT-D does not support RFID pairing, ensure you have an e-Dock (Part Number: 6158134000) available to configure the battery tools.
2 - CONNECT-D Configuration
2.1 - Configuration overview
There are two stages to get your CONNECT-D setup:
- Use CVIConfig to set the CONNECT-D parameters (number of tools - supported protocols...).
- Use CVIMonitor to configure the battery tools for communication with your CONNECT-D.
It is also important to note that some CVIConfig and CONNECT-D Configurator settings need to be aligned. This is especially true for:
- CONNECT-D IP Address.
- Communication Ports Number: CONNECT-D settings for Customized Protocols, Open Protocol and Battery Tools' Communication Port settings must be aligned.
These specifics will be detailed in the next sections.
2.2 - Configuration steps
2.2.1 - Using CVIConfig configuration assistant
To start the CONNECT-D configuration:
- Start CVIConfig.
- Right click with your mouse on Working Area, hover over Add option then click Add Product.
- Select CONNECT-D in the Product Window that opens.
- Provide the Description and IP Address in the Add "Connect-D" window - Ensure the IP Address matches the CONNECT-D IP field in the CONNECT-D Configurator: refer to the following article if necessary.
If necessary, change the Port Number setting by clicking on the drop down arrow.
Click Next.
What is the Port Number setting used for ? It is the port used to transfer the configuration from CVIConfig to the CONNECT-D.
- Click on the Tool Icons in the Asset Window to add the necessary tools then click Finish.
How many tools can I associate to a CONNECT-D ? You can connect a maximum of 20 Wireless Tool.
Your CONNECT-D is now created in CVIConfig.
2.2.2 - CONNECT-D Network configuration (Optional)
The next step to setup your CONNECT-D is to customise your Network settings.
To that end, click the Networks menu in CVIConfig.
The menu lets you set or update the following parameters:
- CONNECT-D TCP/IP - Ethernet connection details: use this panel if you need to update the parameters provided via CVIConfig configuration assistant - please see section 2.2.1 - Use CVIConfig Configuration Assistant.
Updating the Current IP Address setting requires you to edit the corresponding CONNECT-D Configuration field - please refer to Connect-D Configurator article. - CVINet / DeMeter Connection details: optional setting to transfer tightening results to either DeMeter or CVINet- Refer to the following article for the specific settings.
- Open Protocol connection details: optional setting to interface the CONNECT-D via Open Protocol to an external device - note that this is typically the case when interfaced with either Pivotware or NEXONAR Neo.
- Customized Protocol details: optional setting to interface the CONNECT-D to a MES using either VWXML, PFCS or IPM Protocol.
Note: Open Protocol and Customized Procol settings must match Connect-D Configurator's Port settings - please refer to this article for additional details.
2.2.3 - CONNECT-D Feature Management configuration
The Feature Management section allows you to activate the various options you have selected - each option is effectively activated once the configuration is transferred to your CONNECT-D and the cost of each feature is compared against the total number of available UVs on your U-RIM.
To activate the selected options:
- Click Feature Management: all options that need to be enabled are listed in the Current Configuration section.
Note: the major difference with CONNECT-X and CONNECT-W is the need to activate the CONNECT-D feature unless it is used alongside Pivotware and Nexonar Neo. - Click the Activate icon to enable each of the selected feature. Click OK when prompted to confirm the feature activation.
2.2.4 - CONNECT-D Tightening Unit Network Configuration
The final stage before transferring the configuration to the CONNECT-D is to setup your Tightening Units.
This first section will focus exclusively on the tool's Network Settings.
- Expand the menu associated to the Tightening Unit you wish to configure.
- Select the Tool.
- Click the Setup panel then fill in the Network Details.
Depending on the selected Allocation method for IP address, the available settings will differ, save for the Communication Port setting which is mandatory.
This particular setting must match the Connect-D Configurator's Port settings - please refer to this article for additional details.
Repeat the process for all the Tightening Units you have setup in your CONNECT-D.
2.2.5 - CONNECT-D Tightening Unit Generic Configuration
To finalise your Tightening Unit configuration:
- Expand the menu associated to the Tightening Unit you wish to configure then click Configuration.
- Select the Tightening Unit Running Mode: PSet or Assembly Process.
- If you have selected the PSet Mode set the Default PSet Selection Source - the default is Tool Display.
- Setup a PSet then the Assembly Process if necessary.
You have now completed all the necessary configuration steps in CVIConfig: you will now have to transfer the configuration to your CONNECT-D.
2.2.6 - Applying the configuration
After creating the Tightening Strategy and configuring the Network setting, you can transfer the configuration to the CONNECT-D:
- Check the CONNECT-D is running on the target system by accessing the Web UI.
If an error arise, check via CONNECT-D Configurator the CONNECT-D status - if necessary, click Start then wait for the CONNECT-D to be up and running. - After confirming the CONNECT-D state, click the Transfer PC --> CONNECT button in CVIConfig.
- Wait for the synchronization interface to open then click Start Transfer.
Wait for the transfer to complete.
Check that the configuration has been properly applied by browsing to the Web UI: all the Tightening Units that have been setup must be listed.
2.2.7 - Connecting the Battery Tools
The last step to get your system ready for operations is to connect your battery tools to the CONNECT-D. Since the CONNECT-D does not support Easy pairing (RFID or via e-Dock), it is necessary to use CVIMonitor to configure your tool's Wireless settings.
The exact procedure to achieve this is described in Desoutter Industrial Tools : How to configure a Desoutter Battery Tool using CVIMonitor.
Once you have setup your battery tools with the appropriate settings, your tools are going to appear connected in the CONNECT-D WebUi.
2.2.8 - Frequently asked questions
How can I monitor operations when using CONNECT-D ? You can use the CONNECT-D Web User Interface (WebUI) to check the tightening status.
