Introduction

This article is intended to explain how to create targets in DeMeter that can be associated with Shift Times. By doing so, users can accurately gather metrics about Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) as performance can be accurately calculated once the target is known.

Overview  


Certain dashboards within DeMeter are closely linked to ongoing production. They can show the Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) of an assembly line/factory as well as it's constituents (Performance, Availability and Quality). Dashboards can also display ongoing alerts from stations/tool controllers and metrics like days since last accident or even rate of Direct OK from a production environment. 


All of the above are affected by the speed at which acceptable parts are produced in a given production environment. As a result it's important for the DeMeter Service(s) to understand what the target number of parts to be produced is per shift. By having this information available, metrics can be correctly calculated and information is correctly conveyed to viewers of dashboards so that they have have access to accurate information.


Example 

You are in full production based on your defined shift times. There has been no stoppage and operators are working as expected, producing exactly the number of parts at the expected run rate. DeMeter will count each new OK/NOK result from Pivotware connectors and affect the environment's OEE accordingly. Everything is reading as 100% in OEE ! Wow ! Go Team ! 


Suddenly an operator start struggling with a particular set of tightening causing them to repeatedly take longer to produce OK parts. As the expected run rate is not met, we will begin to see that the Performance of the shift will decrease because by time x we have produced less OK parts than expected.


This kind of metric can only be done accurately by having shift times defined as producing 100 parts within 4 hour long shift will create a different expectation compared to the same amount time to produce 200 parts.


Creating Shift Targets  


To add a shift target to your DeMeter configuration, click on the   icon.


When defining a shift target, users are able to define an appropriate name for the target, which shift time(s) it applies to as well as the expected quantity of OK result to receive during this time period when calculating OEE.

  • Name - Define the name of your shift target
  • Select a shift time - Define which shift time(s) your shift target applies to
  • Number of parts to produce - Define the expected number of parts to produce within the defined shift time (per day)
  • Efficiency - Define the efficiency expectation for the target.


Efficiency can be altered to change the calculation by DeMeter. For example, in a 10 hour shift producing 100 parts, DeMeter would one OK result every 6 minutes to maintain a 100% performance rate. At 50% efficiency, the expectation changes to one result every 12 minutes.

Attaching Targets to Environments in your Company Structure  


Shift Targets and Shift Times are closely interlinked inside of DeMeter. As a result, it's important to attach any and all valid Shift Targets to your assembly lines so that correct metrics can be calculated once data is being collected.
