Introduction
This article lists all hardware requirements to operate PivotWare related softwares:
- CVIFusion.
- Infinity Software.
- Infinity modules.
- CoreService.
1- Article scope
The present article lists hardware requirements for properly operating the PivotWare system.
However:
- The PivotWare system is not designed to be operated as a Safety Device. If your system requires specific safeties (especially time wise), please consider using a dedicated system in addition to the PivotWare system to guarantee safe operations.
- PivotWare performances (especially Infinity Client) depend heavily on the overall number of steps, but also the type of steps used, whether plug- in are used... While the Recommended configuration will apply to most cases, if your TAKT time, system response time... is critical, consider getting in touch with your local Customer Centre or the Remote Service support team.
- We advise monitoring the system for key performances indicators once your production line has reached its full capacity in order to detect any possible holding point. Get in touch with Remote Service Support should you feel you need additional help on the subject.
2- Suggested readings
We recommend having a look at the following articles if this is your first time working with PivotWare:
- PivotWare presentation.
- PivotWare architecture: the article will get you familiar with the various PivotWare components and software.
3- Infinity Station hardware requirements
3.1- Infinity Software reminders
Infinity software can be installed on any computer since version 7.1.
Infinity software needs a PRIM to be connected to the station starting from version 7 onward.
3.2- Infinity Software system requirements

(*): minimum configuration is sufficient for processes with less than 20 steps and no advanced functionalities, such as:
- File function.
- Lookup tables.
- …
(**): ensure that your factory’s network backbone also operates at 1Gb/s (minimum).
(***): disk space is critical when using CoreService reporting. In the event of a communication failure between CoreService and Infinity station, traceability data is going to be stored in the Infinity station until communication resumes.
4- CVIFusion hardware requirements
Minimum configuration (*) | Recommended configuration
CPU | Speed (GHz) | 2 | |
Cores | 4 | ||
RAM (GB) | 2 (DDR3) | 8 (DDR3 or above)
Ethernet | Number | 1 | |

(*): minimum configuration is sufficient for processes with less than 20 steps and no advanced functionalities, such as:
- File function.
- Lookup tables.

Furthermore, these requirements do not take into account any other software running on the computer CVIFusion is installed on.
(**): ensure that your factory’s network backbone also operates at 1Gb/s (minimum).
(***): disk space required for CVIFusion installation purpose and assuming CoreService is used to store processes details and configuration files.
5- Infinity Module hardware requirements
5.1- Infinity Module reminder
Infinity Module software can be installed on any computer since version 7.1.
5.2- Infinity Module Software system requirements

(**): ensure that your factory’s network backbone also operates at 1Gb/s (minimum).
(***): disk space required for CoreService software installation purpose only. This does not take into account disk space requirements for any other software installed on the computer .
6- CoreService system requirements
6.1- Foreword
It is advised for both CoreService and the associated database to be installed on separate machines.
This recommendation ensures that the load is split between two machines for data traceability retrieval from the Infinity stations and traceability display in CVIFUsion.
6.2- CoreService system requirements
Minimum configuration (*) | Recommended configuration
CPU | Speed (GHz) | 2 | |
Cores | 2 | ||
RAM (GB) | 8 | ||
Ethernet | Number | 2 | |
Speed (Mb/s) | 1000 (**) | ||

(*): configuration allows for a maximum of 10 stations / 20 steps per station.
(**): ensure that your factory’s network backbone also operates at 1Gb/s (minimum).
(***): disk space required for CoreService software installation purpose only. This does not take into account disk space requirements for any other software installed on the computer.

(*): configuration allows for a maximum of 10 stations / 20 steps per station.
(**): for those cases where CoreService can only be installed on the same server as the MSSQL database, 4GB need to be added for CoreService software to operate normally.
(***): ensure that your factory’s network backbone also operates at 1Gb/s (minimum).
(****): required disk space heavily relies on the following:
- Use of key steps.
- Type of steps (for example File Function - Tightening steps with result retrieval...).
- Database archiving policy at your facility.
For Virtual Machines, we advise you to assign a set disk space (100GB as an initial value) then monitor over a month of full production the increase rate in disk space usage. This will let you adjust the Virtual Machine setup.
