2 - DeMeter and RavenDB licenses  

2.1 - Why is a RavenDB license mandatory  

A RavenDB license allows you:

  • To dedicate to RavenDB a number of your Server cores. This is key to ensure that your DeMeter system runs at peak efficiency (please refer to the following article for further information).
  • To expand on RavenDB basic functionalities, providing you with advanced features such as backup and archiving features, but also some system monitoring capabilites.

Note also that DeMeter will fail to start if a valid RavenDB license is not detected at start-up starting from version 2.14.1 upward.


2.2 - Checking your RavenDB license  

The RavenDB license type can be checked via RavenDB studio:

  • Log in to the server running DeMeter.
  • Launch your favourite browser then navigate to RavenDB Studio home page (http://127.0.0.1:8666).
  • Click on the License Information icon in the lower right corner.


The license type is displayed available in the subsequent tab:

If your license is either a Community or an AGPL one, reach out to your local Desoutter contact to be provided with a valid license.


Note that there are two different license types:

  • Lifetime license: this license has no limitation in time. However, the most advanced RavenDB features are also not available. These licenses are dedicated to DeMeter Traceability pack.
  • Yearly license: this license must be renewed every year but gives you access to all RavenDB features. They are supplied alongside DeMeter Service pack. Note that if your DeMeter server is connected to the internet, the license will automatically be renewed upon its expiry date. If your sever is isolated from the Internet, an updated license will have to be loaded to the server: please reach out to your local Desoutter contact.


2.3 - Installing a RavenDB license then checking its installation  

If you are required to install a RavenDB license:

  • Reach out to your local Desoutter contact to be provided with a valid license. Note that you will have to confirm the number of assets connected: remember that the number of Cores assigned to DeMeter depends on the number of connected assets.
  • Once you have been provided a licence, log in to the server running DeMeter.
  • Launch your favourite browser then navigate to RavenDB Studio home page (http://127.0.0.1:8666).
  • Click on the License Information icon in the lower right corner.
  •  Click the Replace License / install license button in the Licence Information window.
  • Copy / Paste the licence content in the Replace / Install licence panel.
  • Click Submit: the license is automatically applied to the server.


You can check that the license is properly taken into account by navigating back to RavenDB Studio home page then checking the number of Cores assigned to RavenDB: in the below example 3 cores have been assigned to RavenDB out of the 8 available on the DeMeter server.
